Hit dog river for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon with the goal of speckled trout. First cast my grandpa nails a 25’’ pickerel and then he and my brother spend the rest of the afternoon smashing the bass and pickerel by working weedless rigged paddle tails through the grass beds. I wanted to get some early practice in for the winter specktacular so I stuck to my goal of trout and didn’t do too well. I fished all up and down halls mill creek plus a bunch of ledges and docks in the main river. I fished anywhere from 2-12’ of water using a slam shady, slick lures, and mirrolures. A fair bit of bait around but I did not get a single bite. It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten skunked. Don’t like the feeling. I need some help figuring out this winter time trout stuff.
